It has been said that if you can fuse your skills with your passion, you’ll have found your purpose. Hence the name.

Design and Purpose was born out of my enduring love for design and typography, combined with a passion for encouraging mental well-being.

I work as an art director and graphic designer on great projects that span rebranding, magazine launches, one-off creative reports, marketing materials and national social-marketing campaigns. See my client list and more details on my Work Philosophy page.

I try to create designs that sing out and provoke an emotional response in the audience. Linked to this is my interest in mental well-being, which has led me to study mindfulness.

These two focus points came together as I realised I could employ some of the same skills I use in my graphic projects in my own work. I started to create a series of images with a message, reframing the distilled wisdom of the ages in accessible graphic artworks. I use words in the images, but they are really just a starting point – signposts to places where words don't quite cut it.

My hope is that the work will interest both those who have come across mindfulness before and those who haven’t, but who like the modern non-denominational images, with their sense of quiet space, in their own right.
