Sunshape
Found branch, suspended, woven with aluminium ribbon
The heavy hand-like branch had fallen in nearby woods. My neighbours kindly lassoed it to their buggy, and we had our own private rodeo getting it into position.
It is suspended by steel cable from the nearby bulding. The aluminium strips were woven in situ to reflect the natural shape. It forms a sunshape that shimmers in the light, rustles in the wind and echoes dappled light falling through trees. After a while, the branch developed a multitude of tiny orange bumps. An expert said it is the trees ‘response to death’. It looked quite beautiful.
